Today was my third lecture for JOUR1111. So
far, I have thoroughly enjoyed the subject and my first thoughts were that it
was definitely going to be a fun and interesting, as well as relatively easy
going. I have very much so enjoyed listening to Bruce, as his experience is
evident through his passion and enthusiasm in the journalism and communication.
However, after a big Sunday night my usual interest towards the subject
deteriorated. I did not want to be there. Walking through the large gloomy
lecture doors made my tummy quiver. I smoothly sat right at the very back of
the hall with some friends just as Bruce’s brassy voice echoed through the
room. Soon after, guest speaker Skye Dohertry introduced herself with her soft
voice comforting my ears. She began discussing “text”, and in particular the
different approaches and styles of writing journalists are expected to make
between online and hard text. What started out as a fairly interesting topic
became quite dreary and tedious. Boredom kicked in, email inbox became empty
and games on my MacBook became repetitive. When the seminar was over, someone
somehow convinced Dohertry to begin playing computer games on the big screen
too! Although a wave of weariness overcame me, I still managed to jot down
notes from the lecture. I’m awfully glad that it was short and sweet!
